STOLEN LOADED GUN, DRUGS DISCOVERED IN STOLEN CAR; 1 ARRESTED
Around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, the VCSO District 3 Crime Suppression Team attempted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet Impala in the 1200 block of Leon Lane, Daytona Beach. The driver immediately bailed from the vehicle and allowed the vehicle to roll into a chain-link fence.
Deputy Steven Woell approached the vehicle and ordered the passenger, Jamie Cash, to show his hands. Deputy Woell noticed Cash appeared to be trying to conceal a handgun. Cash then jumped out of the car and ran. Deputy Woell gave chase and took Cash into custody a short distance away.
A perimeter was established and a K-9 team was deployed in an effort to locate the driver, but he was not located. CST recovered the gun (a Ruger LCP .380) from within the vehicle. The Ruger, which contained a magazine with six bullets including one in the chamber, was reported stolen out of Edgewater.
CST also located a backpack containing trafficking amounts of Methamphetamine, Oxycodone, MDMA and Diazepam. CST discovered Cash had 8 prior felony convictions and was released from prison in 2010 for robbery.
CST contacted the owner of the fleeing vehicle and discovered the vehicle was just stolen from an address in Holly Hill.
Cash was charged with grand theft motor vehicle, armed trafficking in methamphetamine, armed trafficking in Oxycodone, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed firearm, grand theft firearm, possession of MDMA, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, resisting arrest without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in custody today at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $131,000 bond.
