VCSO Charges 8 With Sex Offenses in S.E. Volusia Parks
Undercover Operation Stemmed from Complaints by Park Visitors of Open Sexual Activity
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office concluded a two-day operation Thursday that resulted in the arrest of eight men for exposing themselves to an undercover deputy sheriff.
The operation was the result of complaints we received about individuals openly engaging in sex acts in the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve and Sleepy Hollow Park, both situated between the cities of Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach off U.S. 1.
In June 2018, still cameras were placed in the park that took hundreds of photos of people engaging in various sex acts. We have photos of at least 50-75 individuals engaged in lewd and lascivious acts directly in front of the cameras. We are in the process of identifying these individuals for potential charges and trespass warnings.
"The message is we want to keep our Volusia County parks safe for our community to enjoy," Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. "We respond when we get complaints about lewd behavior in our parks. We have put up cameras in the parks and we're watching. To people practicing this kind of behavior: Stay out of the parks."
The following individuals were arrested this week and charged with indecent exposure in public under Florida Statute 800.03.
