Update: Volusia sheriff’s detectives are charging two people in a series of BB gun shootings of vehicles on I-4 and I-95 back in January.

The shooter,  21-year-old Deon Anthony Jones (DOB 9/2/1998), is charged with 19 counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and felony criminal mischief. He was already in custody on other charges in the Duval County Jail when detectives arrested him Tuesday on his Volusia warrants.

The driver, 22-year-old Tiyana Anderson (DOB 12/9/1997), is wanted on principal charges in connection to each of Jones’ charges.

On Jan. 1, deputies responded to several reports of shots fired at vehicles traveling along I-4 and I-95 in Volusia County. Each of the victims’ vehicles had damage consistent with BB projectiles. Similar incidents were also reported across Seminole, Flagler, and St. Johns counties around the same timeframe. One of the victims in St. Johns County was able to report a tag number and suspect vehicle description.

A joint investigation with the Florida Highway Patrol led to the identification of two suspects, Jones and Anderson. The tag reported in St. Johns was assigned to a vehicle registered to Jones’ grandparents, and that vehicle was soon located by FHP troopers in Jacksonville. There were BBs visible on the floorboard, and the passenger side mirror was broken in a way that appeared consistent with being shot by someone inside the vehicle.

Through this and other evidence gathered during the joint investigation, detectives confirmed Jones used a BB gun to randomly shoot at 19 occupied vehicles while his female companion, Anderson, drove. The total property damage was estimated at about $12,000.

Jones has an extensive criminal history, to include armed robbery, possession of firearm by convicted felon, and dealing in stolen property. His listed bond on his Volusia charges is $100,000. Anderson was not yet in custody as of this writing.
