Home Invasion Suspect Tackles Resident, Flees on Foot
Sheriff’s deputies were called to a report of a home invasion at 754 Crawford Court in Deltona just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A male resident, 26, was awakened by someone in his living room trying to remove a television from the wall. The resident confronted one suspect, described as a young black male dressed in dark clothing, who then attacked the resident, tackling him to the floor. After a brief struggle, the suspect fled on foot.
The suspect had gained access to the home through the unsecured garage – the residents had forgotten to close their garage door before going to bed.
The investigation showed the suspect had removed a firearm and Playstation from the living room and loaded it into one of the victims’ unlocked vehicles in the driveway. Keys to the vehicle were lying on a table in plain view in the home. The vehicle was burglarized but not stolen.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) K-9 units, deputies and Air 1 launched an intensive search of the area but did not locate the suspect. Neither the male resident or his live-in girlfriend was injured in the incident, which appears to be a random crime of opportunity.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone with additional information about this home invasion is asked to call the VCSO non-emergency number at (386) 248-1777. Or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-8477 (TIPS) or via online at westopcrime dot com. You could be eligible for a cash reward.
