Updated at 4:10 p.m.

The officer is still recovering at the hospital, but doing well.  Due to family considerations, we will not be releasing his name.  The officer was a new officer and is still in the new hire training cycle.  At this time we are still investigating to determine the cause.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., a Port Orange Police Officer was shot in the calf.  It appears to be an accidental, self-inflicted injury while conducting training at the New Smyrna Beach Police Shooting range.  The Officer is stable and being treated for his injuries at the hospital.  The incident is still under investigation.  There are no videos (BWC) of the incident.

No further information will be released about the officer at this time.  We will release that information when it is appropriate to do so.
