DOWNTOWN GRAFFITI VANDALS CAUGHT IN THE ACT
DeLand Police have apprehended two people believed to be responsible for tagging several locations with graffiti this week.
On Friday, police had discovered several locations including Persimmon Hollow Brewing Company and a statue outside City Hall had been defaced by graffiti sometime Thursday. While no arrests were made Friday, officers were following up on several leads and had obtained surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
At about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Corporal Richard Cody received an anonymous call that two people were painting walls in the downtown area.
When Corporal Cody responded to the area, he observed a female and tall male in the parking lot of the Blind Pig. The female was holding a piece of cardboard while the male was holding a white and black can in his right hand.
When Corporal Cody pulled up to the two subjects, they started to walk away. Cody noticed the cardboard held by the female was cut out in a stencil form and had black spray paint all over it. He later saw the stencil matched the wording found in several locations on Friday.
The suspects, identified as 31-year-old Bryant Best and 27-year-old Amanda Teague, both said they had done nothing wrong.
Both were charged with criminal mischief while Teague received an additional charge of resisting arrest without violence after attempting to walk away multiple times. They were both taken to Volusia County Branch Jail
