The DeLand Police Department is offering a seminar to area religious leaders to help them implement security measures at their places of worship.

On Saturday, February 17,  DeLand Police will provide training on how to keep congregations safe by addressing security concerns within faith-based organizations. The seminar will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and hosted at First United Methodist Church of DeLand, 115 E. Howry Avenue, DeLand.

“Unfortunately in recent years, places of worship have become a target,” Police Chief Jason Umberger said. “Our hope is we can provide information to faith-based leaders to make their facilities more secure.”

In addition to going over security methods, topics will include roles of ushers, greeters and first line response teams, active shooter responses and procedures and how to conduct ongoing security assessments.

Lunch will be provided.

For those interested in attending, please contact Officer Rod Hancock at hancockr@deland.org or by calling 386-626-7467.
