SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVESTIGATING FATAL DELTONA ACCIDENT

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian accident that happened Saturday night in Deltona. A 58-year-old man attempted to cross the street in the 1400-block of Howland Boulevard in front of the Bottle Stop Liquors #2 business at about 9:52 p.m. A vehicle driven by a 64-year-old Deltona woman then struck him in the street. The man was pronounced dead on scene. Preliminarily, it’s been determined that the man had walked into the path of the vehicle and the driver didn’t have time to react. Neither alcohol nor vehicle speed are believed to be factors on the driver’s part.

The victim’s identity is being withheld until out of state next of kin are notified. He had identification from New York.

Update: 2:00 p.m.

The identity of the man struck and killed last night (see below original news release) is 58-year-old Michael A. Long from New York.
