DELTONA CRIME SUPPRESSION OPERATION RESULTS IN TRAFFIC CITATIONS AND SOLVED CRIMES

Crime hot spots in Deltona got some extra attention Friday from Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies working a special crime suppression operation that resulted in several arrests and the issuance of dozens of traffic citations. In Osteen, 20 of those citations were issued and four people faced criminal charges. Two recent burglary investigations also resulted in arrests during the operation.

Teams of patrol deputies and Sheriff’s investigators fanned out around the city, targeting areas where burglars and auto thieves have struck recently. Deputies also cracked down on traffic and drug infractions during the 10-hour operation that kicked off mid-afternoon. Deputies issued a total of 78 traffic citations and 10 criminal citations during the operation. More operations are planned in the future.

One of the pair of burglary investigations handled during the operation resulted in the arrest of Deltona resident June Stivers (2/22/82), 30, for violation of probation, theft from a person 65 years old or older, dealing in stolen property and supplying false owner information on pawned items. A 79-year-old Deltona woman had allowed Stivers and her children to use her swimming pool May 30. Afterwards, the victim discovered that several piece of jewelry, valued at nearly $3,000, were missing. A subsequent investigation revealed that Stivers had pawned the jewelry. Stivers was arrested Friday and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.

The other burglary investigation saw the arrest of Deltona resident Cedrick Graham (12/9/88), 23, for violation of probation, dealing in stolen property and grand theft. A husband and wife reported on May 24 that their home had been broken into and several items -- to include a gun case with several guns inside, televisions, jewelry and electronics -- were stolen. A couple of weeks later a confidential informant told the victims and investigators that Graham had several items he was trying to sell that matched the stolen items’ descriptions. A search warrant was executed Friday at Graham’s home at 226 Hedgewood Drive and several of the stolen goods were found and returned to the victims. Graham was subsequently arrested and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.

Others either charged or arrested during the operation included:

  • Christopher Bryck (2/23/81), 31, Deltona, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.

  • Italo Zalavarria, (8/29/93), 18, Deltona, driving without a license, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.

  • Akeem Alli (5/19/92), 20, Deltona, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.

  • Adolfo Olvera (9/27/83), 28, Pierson, driving with a revoked license (habitual traffic offender).
