The Volusia County Sheriff’s
Office is on-scene at a neighborhood just east of DeLand
where a shooting took place shortly after 5 p.m. today. The
location is Oak Circle, near South Blue Lake Avenue and East
Voorhis Avenue. One person has been injured and the
Sheriff’s Office is still searching for the gunman, who is
believed to be a neighbor of the wounded man.
The Sheriff’s Office was
dispatched to the neighborhood after receiving a call about
the shooting at 5:20 p.m. When responding deputies arrived,
they found a man who was on the ground in the screened porch
of a home, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. The
victim, an adult man, was removed from the scene by a county
ambulance and brought to a Sheriff’s Office helicopter
that’s taking the injured man to the hospital for medical
treatment. The victim was breathing and conscious at the
time of the medical transport.
The Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT Team
and crisis negotiators have been called to the scene. DeLand
Police also are assisting. More information will be released
as it becomes available.
The victim of today’s shooting
has died. He has been identified as 62-year-old Dominick
Frangiamore. Frangiamore lived at 10 Oak Circle, where the
shooting took place. After the shooting, he was airlifted by
a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office helicopter to Halifax
Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Doctors there worked
on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Deputies are still on scene and
have been in telephone contact with the suspect in the
shooting, but he has refused to come out of his house.

p.m.
The suspected shooter has
been found dead inside his home at 1543 E. Voorhis Ave.
He has been identified as 47-year-old Mark Carper. After
deputies and crisis negotiators were unable to convince
Carper to come out and telephone contact with him
ceased, the Sheriff’s Office dispatched a bomb robot
into the house to look for the suspect. He was found
dead inside the home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
