DEPUTIES INVESTIGATING SHOOTING IN DELAND

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is on-scene at a neighborhood just east of DeLand where a shooting took place shortly after 5 p.m. today. The location is Oak Circle, near South Blue Lake Avenue and East Voorhis Avenue. One person has been injured and the Sheriff’s Office is still searching for the gunman, who is believed to be a neighbor of the wounded man.

The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the neighborhood after receiving a call about the shooting at 5:20 p.m. When responding deputies arrived, they found a man who was on the ground in the screened porch of a home, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, an adult man, was removed from the scene by a county ambulance and brought to a Sheriff’s Office helicopter that’s taking the injured man to the hospital for medical treatment. The victim was breathing and conscious at the time of the medical transport.

The Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT Team and crisis negotiators have been called to the scene. DeLand Police also are assisting. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Update: 9:50 p.m.

The victim of today’s shooting has died. He has been identified as 62-year-old Dominick Frangiamore. Frangiamore lived at 10 Oak Circle, where the shooting took place. After the shooting, he was airlifted by a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Doctors there worked on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Deputies are still on scene and have been in telephone contact with the suspect in the shooting, but he has refused to come out of his house.

Update: 10:50 p.m.

The suspected shooter has been found dead inside his home at 1543 E. Voorhis Ave. He has been identified as 47-year-old Mark Carper. After deputies and crisis negotiators were unable to convince Carper to come out and telephone contact with him ceased, the Sheriff’s Office dispatched a bomb robot into the house to look for the suspect. He was found dead inside the home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
