DELTONA MAN INJURED IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING
A Deltona man was hospitalized early Friday morning after being struck by a bullet in an apparent drive-by shooting. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Based on preliminary information at the scene, the shooting does not appear to be a random act.
Deputies were dispatched to 1043 Cobblestone Ave. after the Sheriff’s Office received a call about the shooting at 2:06 a.m. When deputies arrived minutes later, they discovered that several bullets had struck the front of the house. One of the rounds was believed to have pierced a window in the house, striking the victim -- a 47-year-old man -- in the upper chest. The victim was conscious and alert when a Sheriff’s Office helicopter arrived to fly him to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
Deputies are investigating to determine whether the shooting was linked to reports of gunfire heard in the street an hour earlier about four blocks away, in the vicinity of Raven Terrace. There were no reports of other injuries in the earlier shooting, and investigators are trying to determine when the victim sustained his injury.
