SHERIFF’S OFFICE RETURNS TO ITS
PRIOR DELTONA HEADQUARTERS
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office
began settling in on Monday to its new Deltona headquarters at
1691 Providence Blvd. And for the 81 employees who work out of
the Deltona office, the surroundings have an extremely familiar
feel to them. That’s because the agency’s law enforcement
operations used to be housed in the exact same location several
years ago. However, the building has undergone a bit of a
makeover since then, thanks to the City of Deltona.
The City contracts with the
Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement services and provides work
space for the agency and its Deltona employees. Captain Dave
Brannon, who heads up the Sheriff’s Office’s Deltona operations,
said the employees are delighted to be back in their old digs
and closer to the city’s geographic center. In addition to its
central location, the move also has the added benefit of getting
the Sheriff’s Office out of leased space on Deltona Boulevard
and back into a city-owned building. “We’re grateful for the
decision of the City Commission and City Manager to return the
Sheriff’s Office to the city’s center,” said Captain Brannon.
“The facility on Providence Boulevard has a proud history and
will relieve taxpayers of the expense of leasing commercial
office space. This was a good decision for all of the citizens
of Deltona.”
The approximately 7,300-square-foot
building at 1691 Providence Blvd. initially served as a city
library. The city then converted it into municipal office space,
moving in the Sheriff’s Office back in 1997. In 2007, the
Sheriff’s Office’s headquarters was relocated to an office suite
in the Deltona Plaza on Deltona Boulevard. Four years later, the
Sheriff’s Office is back home. The phone number, (386) 860-7030,
is unchanged.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open
house has been scheduled for April 2. Captain Brannon invites
the public to stop by to check out the Providence Boulevard
facility and meet the Sheriff’s Office staff. A total of 73
sworn deputies and eight civilian employees work out of the
facility. “The Sheriff’s Office is very proud of its partnership
with the city, and we hope the community will come by to see our
new home and meet the fine men and women who serve the residents
of Deltona,” said Captain Brannon.
