DELTONA WOMAN KILLED WHILE CROSSING HOWLAND BOULEVARD

A 26-year-old woman was struck and killed early Wednesday night after she stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle while crossing Howland Boulevard in Deltona. The crash, which occurred at about 6:20 p.m. where Howland and Courtland boulevards intersect, is under investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, who lived in Deltona, was crossing the road when she was struck by a mini-van that was traveling westbound on Howland Boulevard. Several people witnessed the collision and called 911 to report the crash to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were on-scene within four minutes, where an off-duty paramedic was attempting to revive the victim. Witnesses told deputies that she was talking on a cell phone while crossing the street. The driver of the mini-van, 28-year-old Shivon Walker, wasn’t injured.

The victim was taken by EVAC ambulance to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, where she was pronounced dead at 7:03 p.m.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Shinnique Comer.
