POODLE NAPPERS SOUGHT BY VCSO INVESTIGATORS

How much is that doggy in the window? Free if you’ve got a crowbar!

Usually the story of a big man being re-united with his wayward dog is a “warm and fuzzy” tale. In this case the man came to retrieve the poodle by going to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society on South Glencoe Road near New Smyrna by prying open the cage, and making off with the dog.

Earlier in the evening the dog was found wandering around Julia Street and North Dixie Freeway at about 8 p.m. It was dropped off at the Humane Society where the poodle was put in a cage out front.

About two hours later a man and woman stole the dog.

The entire caper was caught on surveillance video—from the time the pair pulled up to the cage and went into the trunk of the their car to retrieve the crowbar—to the time the balding man with the gray goatee, dressed in a black biker t-shirt tenderly held the 8-pound poodle in his arms while he got licks and kisses.

The two drove off in their car, which looked like a Ford Focus, leaving the Humane Society to foot the bill.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has any information about the incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Resident can also text a tip by texting “TIP231 plus the message” to CRIMES. Tipsters who provide information to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000. Anyone who prefers to talk directly to a deputy can call the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 423-3301. However, only callers to Crime Stoppers will qualify for a reward.
