FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATED IN DEBARY

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident in DeBary early Saturday morning. The crash occurred at about 1:49 a.m. on South Charles R. Beall Boulevard just a little south of its intersection with Dirksen Drive. An adult female was walking northbound alongside the road in area that is poorly lit. Witnesses said that the woman suddenly stepped out in front of a car that was also traveling northbound and was struck. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car wasn't injured, and there were no other occupants.

The 42-year-old victim has been identified as  Sherrie Ann Morrison, 42, of Orange City. The driver of the vehicle was 41-year-old Corey Manuel of DeBary. Preliminary findings indicate that neither speed nor alcohol were factors, but the cause of the crash is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
