OFFICERS RECOVER 6-YEAR-OLD GIRL MISSING FROM WILDWOOD

Law enforcement authorities late Thursday afternoon made the safe recovery of a 6-year-old girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert out of Wildwood, FL. Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies on alert for Karmen Barfield -- the little girl who reportedly was the victim of a parental abduction -- spotted her father’s Ford pickup truck in the vicinity of Graves Avenue in Orange City. Officers had staked out the area because the girl’s father, Chance Barfield, has relatives in Orange City. The pickup truck was occupied, but not by the girl or her father.

A follow-up investigation by Volusia County deputies and Orange City police led officers to a nearby residence at 226 Edwards Ave. in Orange City. Officers entered the home to search for the girl and found the two hiding in the attic of the house.

Chance Barfield has been taken into custody and is being held for Wildwood authorities. The girl was unharmed. Several others at the house who hindered the investigation also have been detained and are facing criminal charges.
