PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY AMTRAK TRAIN

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a pedestrian who apparently walked into the path of an oncoming Amtrak train was struck and killed Friday night. The collision occurred at around 8:30 p.m. in DeLeon Springs, between Lemon Street and Mud Lake Road. The victim is believed to be an adult man, but Sheriff’s investigators were still on-scene Friday night trying to confirm details about the victim. The northbound train was en-route to New York, with approximately 164 passengers on board. The train stopped after the collision, which was reported to the Sheriff’s Office by CSX Transportation at 8:36 p.m. The CSX representative who reported the incident said the victim walked into the path of the train. Sheriff’s investigators were interviewing the conductor to determine exactly how the collision occurred.

Update - 12/28/09
The victim who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Friday has been identified through his fingerprints as Tyler Thomas Baker, 22, from Lake Mary. The death investigation is still active.
