SHOTS FIRED IN EARLY-MORNING DISPUTE OVER DOG; ONE ARRESTED
A dispute over a dog led to gunfire early Thursday in the Orange City area after a woman went to confront a neighbor around 1 a.m. and was met with a gunshot through a pane window at the front door.
The man who fired the shot, 71-year-old Robert Mosher (DOB 2/15/1946), was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in the incident. The victim, a 38-year-old woman, was not shot, but was injured by flying shattered glass.
Deputies responded around 1:22 a.m. to the incident on Alice Drive. There, Mosher told them he was asleep in bed when he heard someone kicking and pounding on his front door. He said he grabbed a 9mm handgun and went to check on the noise. Then he said he saw a shadow through the front window and accidentally fired a shot through the window. He said he opened the door, saw a female running down the driveway, yelling, and he fired another round toward her as she ran away.
The victim told deputies she went to Mosher’s front door to confront him about a dog that was loose on her family’s property and had attacked her. After the shot was fired, the victim initially thought she was hit by shot from a shotgun, but it was discovered the cuts on her arm and abdomen were from the flying pieces of glass. She declined medical treatment.
Mosher was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was released later Thursday after posting $20,000 bond.
