SHERIFF’S OFFICE CONTINUES TRAFFIC SAFETY OPERATION IN DELTONA
Up until now, warning and education have been the primary enforcement tools of a traffic safety operation that the Sheriff’s Office has been conducting in Deltona since the beginning of March. But that’s about to change.
The operation, funded by a $30,000 grant, has been targeting eight heavily-traveled intersections in Deltona to improve safety and reduce the number of traffic crashes involving vehicles striking pedestrian and bicyclists. Between written and verbal, deputies have issued approximately 175 warnings since the operation kicked off. Beginning Saturday, the operation moves into the next phase. And that means violators will also face traffic citations for transgressions that create unsafe conditions, such as violation of a traffic control signal device. As a reminder, the eight intersections -- all with traffic signals and marked pedestrian crosswalks -- that are part of the operation are as follows:
The project is funded by the Florida Department of Transportation Project #433144-1, Contract #GOEO8, Alert today-Alive tomorrow; in agreement with the University of South Florida Board of Trustees, South Florida’s Center for Urban Transportation.
