PORT ORANGE MAN CHARGED WITH KILLING HIS GIRLFRIEND

At approximately 1:13 a.m. this morning, the Port Orange Police Department was dispatched to a homicide at 5609 Victoria Gardens Blvd. apartment # 1205. The victim, Justine Clawson, was pronounced deceased at 1:27 a.m. and her death is believed to be the result of an apparent gunshot wound.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on 8/26/16, the Ormond Beach Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash in their city. The driver, Jamal Kareem Davis (DOB 05/05/1981), advised first responders that moments earlier he left 2 children (1 y/o and 2 y/o) at an unknown shopping center in Ormond Beach. The children were located a short time later at 487 Nova Rd. Officer’s with the Ormond Beach Police Department were unable to contact the children’s mother (Justine Clawson) and instead made contact with the father of the victim who advised he would pick up the mother and respond to take custody of the children. The deceased victim was located initially by her father at the apartment in Port Orange. The children are now in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.

Jamal Davis was interviewed by detectives from the Port Orange Police Department at which time he stated that he and Justine Clawson were arguing over relationship/child custody issues when the argument became physical. Jamal Davis stated he used a 9mm handgun to shoot the victim at least two times. Jamal also told detectives that he drove his vehicle into a tree in an attempt to take his own life. Jamal Davis is in custody of the Port Orange Police Department and has been charged with 1st Degree Murder with no bond.
