NEWLY HIRED PIERSON PHARMACY TECH CAUGHT ON VIDEO STEALING PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
A Pierson pharmacy technician is behind bars on charges she stole more than a dozen bottles of prescription drugs in just a few days of employment – and the thefts were captured on video.
Early this morning, 28-year-old Katie Jean Williams (DOB 5/16/1990) of Daytona Beach was arrested on drug charges for the second time in three weeks. Sheriff’s deputies initially arrested her May 25 on charges of grand theft and trafficking in Oxycodone, before the full extent of her theft was determined.
May 25 was the day a sheriff’s deputy was first dispatched to Pierson Community Pharmacy after the owner discovered several bottles missing during inventory. At the time, the pharmacy was missing at least 200 15mg Oxycodone pills, 200 30mg Oxycodone pills and 100 20mg Amphetamine pills. Video surveillance clearly showed Williams take bottles out of the pharmacy’s safe and place them under her shirt.
In the coming days, a follow-up audit would reveal several more missing bottles and additional video evidence of Williams stealing pills on May 8 (two bottles of Phentermine), May 9 (one bottle of Diazepam), May 10 (two bottles of Oxycodone – a trafficking amount) and twice on May 11 (two bottles of Alprazolam).
Williams, who had only been employed with the pharmacy for about a month, was additionally charged today with trafficking in Oxycodone and four counts of possession of a Schedule IV substance. She was being held on $70,000 bail this morning at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
