DETECTIVES ARREST DELAND MAN WITH 136 MARIJUANA PLANTS
A tip about drug activity led narcotics detectives on Thursday to a marijuana grow near DeLand, where 136 plants were seized and one person arrested. Detectives also seized a variety of prescription pills along with growing equipment, scales and smoking pipes during the arrest of 47-year-old Allan Peterson.
Detectives with the West Volusia Narcotics Task Force had Peterson’s residence at 1555 2nd Ave. under surveillance after receiving an anonymous tip that he was involved in drugs. Late Thursday afternoon, a vehicle that Peterson was driving was pulled over for a traffic infraction and a drug-sniffing Sheriff’s K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics. That led to the discovery of a cotton bag behind the driver’s seat that was stuffed with four separate bags of marijuana totaling 178 grams along with a digital scale, a smoking pipe and more than 50 pills, but no prescription to go with them.
The investigation then continued at Peterson’s motor home, which turned up 33 plants inside the trailer and another 103 plants behind it. Other items found inside the motor home included about 9 grams of processed marijuana, several pills and miscellaneous growing equipment and drug paraphernalia, such as scales, pipes, straws and a marijuana grinder. Peterson (DOB: 10/31/69) is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on charges of manufacture of marijuana, trafficking in hydromorphone, drug offense and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, with a bond of $57,500. Additional charges against Peterson are pending.
