JOIN VCSO FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT ON TUESDAY, OCT. 3

Do you know your neighbors? Deputies for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office that serve your community? You’ll have the chance next Tuesday, Oct. 3, as the Sheriff’s Office teams up with Deltona and DeBary, DeLand police and the Halifax Plantation Neighborhood Watch Group for activities at different locations as part of National Night Out.

This program is designed to help residents get to know local law enforcement officers and encourages crime and drug prevention awareness. Four different free events are planned as part of National Night Out. They include:

District 2 – DeLand Police Department, 219 W. Howry Ave., DeLand, from 6-9 p.m. Meet police and firefighters, and join in other activities such as children’s fingerprinting and face painting, fire extinguisher demonstration, Second Chance animal adoption, K-9 demonstration, mock crash and rescue. Refreshments also available.

District 3 North – Halifax Plantation Neighborhood Watch Group, Acoma Drive and Kinnard Circle, 5-7 p.m. Features a K-9 demonstration along with members of the VCSO Marine unit, dive team and display of vehicles.

District 4 – Deltona City Hall, 2345 Providence Blvd., 5:30-8:30 p.m.  Featuring food, children’s fingerprinting and a bounce house, K-9 and motorcycle demonstrations, display of a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission boat and a SWAT vehicle. Inside City Hall, deputies will offer seminars about avoiding fraud and scams, and pedestrian and bike safety. More than 40 vendors will be at City Hall. And Deltona firefighters will offer free car seat safety inspections.

District 6 – DeBary City Hall, 16 Colomba Road, 6-9 p.m. Featuring K-9 and motorcycle demonstrations, Fire Department car extraction demonstration, food, information and more.

National Night Out began in 1984 as a nationwide tool for crime prevention. In addition to local events, neighbors are encouraged to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend time outside talking with neighbors, police officers and firefighters.
