TEEN ARRESTED IN DELAND STRONG-ARM ROBBERY; 2 OTHERS SOUGHT

Sheriff’s detectives arrested a juvenile suspect in a strong-arm robbery two days after a DeLand High School student reported being attacked by three males -- with seemingly no leads and no witnesses.

Jarvis Carr, 16, (DOB 8/4/2002), was arrested Friday and charged with robbery without a firearm, a second-degree felony. He was taken into custody at the Department of Juvenile Justice. Two other suspects are being sought in this investigation.

The robbery occurred Tuesday at South Blue Lake and East Howry avenues when the 15-year-old male victim was walking home from DeLand High School.  The victim is a student at DeLand Middle School and was on a field trip to DeLand High. The victim told deputies three black males were walking in the same direction as he was from the school. As he walked past East New York Avenue and onto East Howry Avenue, the three males attacked him and snatched his wallet from his pocket. They waited until all vehicles were out of sight before attacking him, the victim said.

The suspects also tried, unsuccessfully, to steal his cellphone, and pushed him to the ground, hitting him in the head several times and struck him in the side of his torso. The males took $40 he had in the wallet and left the wallet as they fled in different directions. The victim was not seriously injured.

Though the victim didn’t get a good look at his assailants, detectives developed a suspect with the help of a school resource deputy and our director of juvenile services for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was shown a line-up and was able to identify Carr as the person who robbed him and assaulted him. Carr was located and taken into custody.
