DeLAND POLICE LAUNCHING OPERATON HONORABLE ENDEAVOR
The DeLand Police Department is implementing a program that will get officers out of their patrol cars and focused on building relationships with residents and community members.
Operation Honorable Endeavor is part of a global effort by the DeLand Police Department to concentrate on community policing by developing relationships with members of the community with an emphasis on youth. As part of this effort the Department is focusing on increased bike patrols, foot patrols and walk and talks throughout the community which will facilitate more patrol officer and citizen interactions and lead to Honorable Endeavor contacts.
“It is our hope that initiatives like Honorable Endeavor make evident to the community that our officers desire to know and be known by those we serve,” said Police Chief Jason Umberger.
Honorable Endeavor is being implemented in conjunction with Operation Vigilant Protector, which is a proactive approach to preventing crime in neighborhoods. If an officer during their patrol sees an opportunity for a would-be criminal to victimize a resident the officer will attempt to make contact with that person to warn them. If no one is present, they will leave a friendly note.
“By building relationships with our residents, we hope to earn their trust and eventually their assistance in making DeLand an even safer place to live, work and play,” Umberger said.
