Erik J. Eagan, a 21-year veteran with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, became the agency’s newest lieutenant on Tuesday. Sheriff Ben Johnson promoted Eagan during a ceremony at the Deputy Stephen Saboda Training Center in Daytona Beach. In his new assignment, Eagan will serve as one of two assistant commanders in the Sheriff’s Office’s Deltona law enforcement headquarters. “It’s an honor and a pleasure to present you with your lieutenant’s badge,” Sheriff Johnson told Eagan, who was flanked by his wife and five children. “Nobody just gave this to you. This is something you’ve earned.”
Eagan started his law enforcement career with the Sheriff’s Office in May 1989. Along the way, he has served in a variety of assignments and earned a reputation for his initiative, motivation and consistent efforts to improve the agency’s operations. His past assignments have included stints in road patrol, traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, narcotics, court services and extraditions. During the 4th quarter of 2007, Eagan was named the top investigator in the Sheriff’s Office. Prior to Tuesday’s promotion, Eagan was a supervisor in the Homeland Security section.
“I’m very proud of you,” said Sheriff Johnson. “You’ve been a great credit to this agency.” The 40-year-old Eagan is a native of New Haven, Conn. and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management from Warner Southern College. Before joining the Sheriff’s Office, Eagan served as a captain and training officer for Volusia County Fire Services.
