Police Athletic League

http://www.westvolusiapal.com

The Police Athletic League of West Volusia is a non-profit joint effort between the Sheriff's Office and the DeLand Police Department. The Sheriff's Office has committed a law enforcement officer full-time to run various sports and drug-free programs for local youths at-risk of dropping out of school or becoming involved in illegal activities. PAL currently uses the Nathaniel E. Jackson Gymnasium which is a cultural landmark in the West Volusia  community for more than 45 years. P.A.L. recently received money from the National Football League (NFL) to build onto to the existing building so more activities will be available soon.

Some of the activities that P.A.L. provides are basketball, football, wrestling, softball/baseball, tutoring, community projects and Project Harmony which is a joint effort between Volusia County Schools, the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranches and P.A.L.

Also offered are spring break and summer camps, as well as a week during the summer at the Florida Sheriff's Youth Camp. P.A.L. also is involved in both educational and athletic filed trips.

For more information, contact the P.A.L. Coordinator at (386) 943-7866.
